This "Why" entry can save a life

Why is it that we can do so many things nowadays that we would have never ever thought of but something that can save lives has not yet been put in place? Telephones are smaller than a deck of playing cards. They take pictures, they can email, they can play MP3s. Devices the size of 5 sticks of gum can hold and play the equivalent of 40 to 50 audio CDs. We can visit Google Maps and view satellite images of our cities. GPS can know your pinpointed location. My point is that technology has really come a long long way.

Here is my question. We can do all of these things, but yet a traffic light can hold up an ambulance for vital seconds. Why can't someone somewhere control the street lights so they all turn green in favor of the ambulance? I am sure the Ambulance already has GPS. Heck, a NEXTEL phone has built in GPS - I am sure the ambulance does too. The "eye in the sky" can see which streets the ambulance is headed down and cycle the traffic lights so the cars can proceed through the intersection and not hold up the ambulance. I have seen ambulances held up in traffic because the cars are at a red light. No matter how much the EMTs honk and blast their horn, no one can move. Who dares proceed through an intersection with cars zipping past? I sure as hell do not want to get T-Boned. If the light were green, everyone should be able to make it through the intersection and not hold up the ambulance.

Then how come I consistently see Ambulances stuck behind cars at a red light?

Kristine, I 100% agree that people in Miami don't give a shit. I won't argue that one bit with you. Everyone is only out to solve their own problems and don't care who else they affect.

I've had several people inform me that this "idea" of mine is already in place. If that is the case then it's not working. Just last week, on 107 ave, or 97, or maybe 87 ave. No matter and NW 25 street... An ambulance trying to cross 25 street and could not because the light was red. AND more importantly, the light cycled to red for the ambulance while the ambulance was about 50 yards from the intersection. So that tells me that this MIRT or whatever it's called isn't working.
